BTG Biomass Technology Group BV is a private company (SME) of consultants, researchers and engineers specialised in the sustainable energy production from biomass and waste. The firm has a staff of approximately 30 people working from offices in Enschede (NL) and regional support offices in the Czech Republic, Estonia and Costa Rica. Started in 1979 as specialists on R&D, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of fixed bed biomass gasifiers and gasifier/generator systems, BTG gradually extended its expertise, which now covers a variety of thermal (pyrolysis, gasification, combustion, liquefaction, carbonisation) and biological (anaerobic digestion) energy conversion technologies. In addition, technologies for the production of biofuels are covered (agglomeration, briquetting). BTG has extensive experience and a strong involvement in European bio-energy R&D programmes, and is or was project co-ordinator or partner of a number of biomass pyrolysis R&D projects and gasification programmes in the Third, Fourth and Fifth Framework Programmes.
