Chimar Hellas S.A. is based in Thessaloniki, Greece. This is an industrial and independent SME (28 people).
Chimar is the successor of ACM Wood Chemicals and is a pioneer in providing innovative industrial technology for the resin and wood based panel industries in all continents. Chimar specializes in developing in house and licensing know-how for the production of formaldehyde-based resins, laminating syrups and resin additives. Chimar specializes as well in the application of said products in the manufacturing of particleboard, fibreboard, plywood, oriented strand board and laminating papers.
Chimar provides processes which enhance the productivity and profitability of manufacturing resins and wood panels. Chimar also undertakes the engineering, construction and operation of plants producing formaldehyde, urea formaldehyde pre-condensate (UFC), formaldehyde resins and resin additives. The Chimar industrial solutions aim to fulfill the eco-efficiency principles by respecting the environment, protecting human health and supporting sustainability. Chimar has important research experience on resins from renewable resources as well as on panels produced from agricultural wastes.
Chimar covers all phases of research and development work, including lab scale testing, everyday problem solving and final stages of development and industrial implementation, thus creating value from research results. The R&D results are properly protected (via patenting or other method), disseminated and licensed worldwide. The technology developed by CHIMAR has been applied so far in plants located in 34 countries. The company has a 30 years experience in transferring new technology into the resin and panel industry and in providing know-how all around the world.
Chimar owns a well-equipped chemical laboratory for advanced synthesis and analysis of resins and chemicals as well as pilot scale installations for resin making. It also offers wood panel production and performance testing in an accompanying technical laboratory.
CHIMAR participates in research projects, either self-funded or partly supported by the European Commission and implemented in co-operation with established European research/industrial organisations of the field. The aim is to develop and promote innovative products and technologies. The project results are properly protected and disseminated worldwide through the international network of CHIMAR licensees and also the new ones who join it.
